Finca La Estrella:
Alexis Martinez (42 years old) is a third generation farmer and grew up cultivating coffee with his parents in the same region where he now owns his own farm. In 2007, Alexis was able to travel to the US with a vision of how to build a brighter future for his family. He worked there for seven years, always saving up with the dream of buying a coffee farm. In 2014, he returned to Honduras and soon he and his family bought Finca La Estrella from a friend. He invested in a new wet mill and has since been working to improve the farm each year.
Alexis is a part of the Emmanuel Association of Producers. The farmers in this region had always sold their coffee through intermediaries at less than market value. This association of producers was formed in order to focus on quality, cut out the intermediaries and work directly with exporters and buyers.
Finca La Estrella is located in the El Porvenir region in the state of El Paraiso. His farm is covered with an amazing forest of guava and cedar trees and ranges from 1100m to 1300m. Alexis wants to start experimenting with organic methods. He hopes to plant coffee on the highest part of his farm and produce the highest quality coffee
